PPAR-α Modulators as Current and Potential Cancer Treatments

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cancer is one of the leading causes mortality worldwide. PPAR modulators may hold great potential for management cancer patients. Indeed, PPARs are critical sensors and regulators lipid, they able to promote eNOS activation, regulate immunity inflammation response, affect proliferation differentiation cells. Cancer, a name given group diseases, characterized by multiple distinctive biological behaviors, including angiogenesis, abnormal cell proliferation, aerobic glycolysis, inflammation, etc. In last decade, emerging evidence has shown that PPAR-α, nuclear hormone receptor, can modulate carcinogenesis via exerting effects on or several characteristic pathological behaviors cancer. Therefore, multi-functional have substantial promise in various types therapies. This review aims consolidate functions as well discuss current applications PPAR-α agonists antagonists tackling

Syndecans as Modulators and Potential Pharmacological Targets in Cancer Progression

Extracellular matrix (ECM) components form a dynamic network of key importance for cell function and properties. Key macromolecules in this interplay are syndecans (SDCs), a family of transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs). Specifically, heparan sulfate (HS) chains with their different sulfation pattern have the ability to interact with growth factors and their receptors in tumor m...

PPAR-α and Insulin Sensitivity

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR) belong to the nuclear receptor superfamily of ligand-activated transcription factors. PPAR-α, first of its three subtypes (α, β, γ) has traditionally been considered an important regulator of lipid metabolism while its role in the regulation of insulin sensitivity has not been recognized until recently. Here we summarize the experimental and cl...

PPAR-α Ligands as Potential Therapeutic Agents for Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration

The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR's) are members of the steroid/thyroid nuclear receptor, superfamily of transcription factors. There are currently three known PPAR subtypes, alpha, beta, and gamma. The PPARs are now recognized participants in a number of biological pathways some of which are implicated in the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). These inc...

The PPAR-Platelet Connection: Modulators of Inflammation and Potential Cardiovascular Effects

Historically, platelets were viewed as simple anucleate cells responsible for initiating thrombosis and maintaining hemostasis, but clearly they are also key mediators of inflammation and immune cell activation. An emerging body of evidence links platelet function and thrombosis to vascular inflammation. peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) play a major role in modulating inflamm...

Metabolomics of the interaction between PPAR-α and age in the PPAR-α-null mouse

Regulation between the fed and fasted states in mammals is partially controlled by peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-alpha). Expression of the receptor is high in the liver, heart and skeletal muscle, but decreases with age. A combined (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry metabolomic approach has been used to examine me...
